Explanation

This dua is a powerful expression of shukr (gratitude) and humility. When we see someone facing a trial—whether it is a physical illness, a financial crisis, or a spiritual struggle—our first instinct should be to thank Allah for sparing us from that specific test. It is not about feeling superior to the person suffering; rather, it is about acknowledging that our safety and health are gifts from Allah, not our own achievements. Reciting this quietly reminds us of our own vulnerability and keeps us grounded.

Is there a Quranic Or Hadith reference?

This specific dua is found in the Hadith collections of Jami` at-Tirmidhi (Book 48, Hadith 3432) and Sunan Ibn Majah. The Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said that whoever sees a person afflicted with some misfortune and says this dua, they will be protected from that specific affliction as long as they live. While not a direct Quranic verse, the concept aligns with Surah Ibrahim (14:7): "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]."

Summary

(English) The dua is a shield of protection and a prayer of gratitude. By thanking Allah for our well-being when witnessing another's hardship, we recognize His mercy. It emphasizes that all ease comes from Him and protects the reciter from falling into the same trial.

(Hinglish) Ye dua shukr ada karne aur hifazat pane ka zariya hai. Jab hum kisi ko mushkil mein dekhte hain, toh ye dua parhne se Allah hamein us takleef se mehfooz rakhta hai. Ye hamein sikhati hai ke hamari aafiyat sirf Allah ke karam se hai, hamari apni khoobi se nahi.

Kya aapne kabhi kisi mushkil waqt mein is dua ka asar mehsoos kiya hai?
